Headshots at Yazaki
From ten headshots a week on the 4th floor to a self-serve studio that 1,000+ employees have used.
When I started at Yazaki, employee photos were taken in an old, poorly lit room. That one photo followed people everywhere: their badge, their Teams profile and their HR profile in SuccessFactors.
So I started taking headshots on the 4th floor, with a QR code people could scan to sign up. I took about ten a week, and word spread as people saw their colleagues’ new photos and wanted one of their own.
Then I found the real problem. Getting a photo that every person loves takes time, and when the service is free, people don’t like to say they’re unhappy with the picture you just took. So I set up the Photo Lab as a self-serve headshot studio: the same lighting and camera quality, simple steps to follow, and no photographer needed.
- Say “Alexa, turn on headshot” and the studio lights come on
- Sit on the stool with your feet on the marked footprints, and watch yourself live on the screen
- Take the shot with a wireless mouse, as many times as you like
- Pick a headshot or passport preset, which edits and crops the photo, then export it
Recognition portraits
Beyond everyday headshots, I photograph recognition portraits and posters: Engineering Green Belts, the Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG) President’s and Dino awards, and the 2024 Automotive News PACE Award.
